My Shakuhachi Yuu order arrived in perfect condition. It looks and feels very nice, and has a good weight to it. In terms of practical use, it's very well tuned and I would say relatively easy to play basic notes as well as Kan notes with a little bit of practice (This is my first shakuhachi apart from the horrible PVC replicas I made, so it feels very correct and professional) All in all I give it a 5/5, great option for a beginner shakuhachi player that can't yet afford real bamboo.

Most reasonably price Shakuhachi Yuu (including delivery and EU taxes) I could find after a few days research. After Taiko confirmed with the factory, delivery was very fast and easy to follow; it only took 3 days. Total waiting time from initial order to delivery was one week. I am an absolute beginner with the instrument, but it sounds just like in the videos I’ve seen and it arrived in perfect condition, very carefully package as is customary in Japan. The whole process was so smooth that the wait only increased my eagerness to learn to play. Highly recommend both the instrument and the Taiko store.

Great instrument. I can practice without the same concerns I would have with a bamboo instrument. The weight is similar and the tones are satisfying. I am very glad I purchased this shakuhachi yuu. And shipment was amazingly quick! Very satisfied all around.

From an old order (08/2020). The shakuhashi arrived quickly and in good shape. Beware that depending on your location you may have to pay import taxes/fees. I managed to make sounds after some practice but only to realize that it is not a 1.8' tuned in D. Based on the main tones produced (Ro, Tsu, Re, Chi, Ri, Go) it seems to match the 1.9' tuned in C#. This is not so much of an issue if you just want to try it out (Japanese notation is not tone dependent from what I've seen so far, but I'm no specialist), but it is a dealbreaker if you try to play with other people.

Superb instrument and great service. Very quick delivery - about three days to UK. I really like the truth to materials - it's an instrument designed to survive in harsh conditions and yet provide both the aural and physiological/psychological/mystical experience of Shakuhachi playing. It took me a few hours to get a sound - I am a tolal beginner – but my tone and the time for which I can play are happily improving each day. Instruments and music shape and positively impact on the world. They should never be only about profit. Taiko centre clearly realises this - reflected in their sector leading pricing.

Delivery was fast and well tracked. Package damaged on outside during delivery but flute fine due to copious bubble wrap. Shakuhachi met all expectations. However it is not easy to play. I play a Yamaha concert flute but it is quite different. Daily practice and patience required to produce a reasonable tone.

This is my first Shakuhachi, so I’ve nothing to compare it with in terms of sound quality. That being said, I personally enjoy the sounds of the Yuu (the ones I am able to produce that is), and the swirls in the resin are really mesmerizing. Great instrument to carry outside for playing in any weather conditions. It’s rather hefty, but I do enjoy how it feels in the hands.

The shakuhachi looks even better that I expected, like a real bamboo one. Nice sound from my beginner point of view. Shipped very fast!

I'm living in mile-high Colorado, USA - It's very low humidity, which limits me to playing my bamboo inside. The Yuu, for me, is a perfect practice instrument for when I'm in low humidity, direct sunlight, etc. So I can play outside or in any weather conditions. The sound is good. It's easy to play. Note that it is on the heavier side. Meri notes are not as resonant through the plastic, but it still works. Lastly, I put a sticker on it! I would never do that to the bamboo. It's great! :)

I am having difficulty producing a consistent sound, but I contribute that more to user error than anything else. I feel that I am blowing too hard and it takes a lot more of a meditative state to blow narrowly into the right spot, consistently, and yet I'm determined to continue trying. I know I can get it right! I just feel that the instrument has that additional challenge over modern flutes, even though it produces a more genuine sound. I feel that this instrument is also not good for capturing with a microphone unless you can filter out the excessive squealing from the piece near the mouth while you are blowing. I may choose not to share my experience with this instrument on social medias, since the more genuine experience would be in person.

A good quality, utilitarian instrument that also looks nice. Only potential downside might be that it weighs a little more than the average bamboo shakuhachi. Not really a big deal though and as there aren't a lot of options for composite shakuhachi it excels at providing the market low cost quality and reliability.

It arrived very quickly and what a great instrument the Yuu is! A good solid weight to it and is quite easy to play. Produces a lovely room filling sound.... after you master getting a strong note out of it. I shall enjoy spending time playing and trying to master Japanese musical notation!

My Shakuhachi journey now begins thanks to Taiko Center who had the best price for a shakuhachi yuu on the internet. Delivery was very quick (dispatched Monday, arrived in UK on Wednesday). Well packaged and communications from Taiko and DHL were excellent. I am a complete beginner so am unable to make comparisons but the flute appears well made and reassuringly solid. Would certainly recommend Taiko Center.

The Shakuhachi Yuu - although made of plastic - is a great beginner flute, which sounds lovely as it is. It has shipped really quickly. If you are considering buying your first shakuhachi flute, this is a good starting point, although compared to the wooden flutes from Taiko shop, it has a slightly different feel. The Yuu's blowing edge curve is also a bit 'deeper' than a wooden flute's edge, which may take some time getting accommodated to. If you are a beginner, my recommendation is to go for a wooden shakuhachi.

Such a lovely flute! I wanted to get into shakuhachi so I could play all the music which inspires me, this flute, although technically a beginner flute, allows me just that. There's a learning curve inherent to playing any shakuhachi but it sounds amazing for the price, feels good in the hands, looks lovely and plays very well.

The Shakuhachi Yuu has excellent finishes, making it play is not easy, but hearing its sound gives a certain emotion. I recommend it to those familiar with wind instruments.

Everything about the shakuhachi is good. The box that contain it is good as well. Shakuhachi well wrapped inside. The only thing that I can be more happy with the purchase is that would appreciate if it comes with a soft case also.

Beautiful Shakuhachi Yuu....even its not from a real bamboo, I like it. Solid and heavy. Accurate tones and the sound is great too. However, the additional charge for shipping to remote area (though its not really remote) is quite expensive. Fortunately the item arrived safely.
