Chalk art is said to have originated on the Gold Coast on the east coast of Australia. It originally developed as sign art for menu boards used mainly in restaurants. Chalk art is drawn on a blackboard without using a brush, using special chalk and your fingertips to mix colors, blur, and add gradation. Corrections can be made by scraping off the pastel with a cutter knife or a clay spatula.
