The right izing is essential...impossible if there is no way to try them on before making a purchase.
I found the sole, which is flexible and thinner than other jikatabi I own, a little uncomfortable on London's freezing cold pavements. So, I placed insoles cut to tabi format a size down from my true size. I wore them without tabi socks and got a very comfortable walking experience in late February! Worn with tabi socks and an additional insole causes the toes to touch the inner perimeters of the toe-boxes...which causes discomfort; defeating the aim of these shoes. These are good to go without socks and wearing them in the Spring,Summer to early Autumn is feasible for my purposes at least. These would have got five stars if they had slightly better arch and heel support unaided by an extra insole.
Again, I loving these.

Poor fit (too small) and firm refuses to accept returns. Disappointing material quality. Toe protection very uncomfortable and kind of renders the whole idea of split toe shoes pointless. Not worth buying.

Tabi Boots are quite a good fit considering the problem with ordering shoes /boots before trying them on. One issue are the lower and upper velcro tabs. The upper one needs a loop for it slide through to make a better adjustment to ones ankle and the upper one needs a small non-velcro end for easier grip when opening.
Otherwise very happy with fit and the grip of the sole.
The grip is of most importance when on a construction site.
