Plum blossoms are the first to bloom before spring even in the cold winter, and are therefore considered to be the three friends of winter, just like pine and bamboo.
This is a couple's chopsticks set made with the auspicious plum motif using a technique called "chinkin."

Chinkin is a technique in which a pattern is carved into the lacquer surface with a blade and gold leaf or powder is pressed into it.

These chopsticks are made from "Hiba" wood.
Hiba is an evergreen coniferous tree of the cypress family that is resistant to water and moisture and has highly durable heartwood, making it used for building materials and ships.

Wajima has flourished as a producer of lacquerware since ancient times and is one of Japan's leading lacquerware production areas.
