Dora is a large and flat instrument made of iron. Hanging on the frame, dora is struck by bachi. It is played in lion dance, kabuki, and Buddhism ritual in Japan. It is often used in taiko performance as an accent in the beginning and the end. Frame, mallet, case come with it. There are some sizes, 30in, 34in, 36in, and 38in. One big hit and crescendo are typical playing methods. It reminds Japanese people of Chinese music often hear in Chinese restaurant. The sounds of dora really suit sounds of taiko. It makes taiko performance more dramatic and dynamic.
